Be part of our community and apply to ISLK! We are an authorised IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate. Apply here!
We exists primarily to serve the educational needs of the transient and/or international community of Lund. The school is funded by the City of Lund and there are no tuition or school fees.
The criteria for admission are set by the Swedish Education Act, Chapter 24 § 4. The students are prioritised in the following order:
ISLK has a limited student capacity. Depending on the mobility of current students and the amount of new prospective students arriving to Lund, ISLK prioritizes the criteria in the order above to primarily meet the educational needs of the transient families each year. If there is a high number of applicants, ISLK only admits applicants from criteria 1 and 2. If the number is less, criterion 3 is open to students whose families have a verified plan to move abroad within one to two years. Criterion 4 is only used if numbers of new applicants are low, and only for re-admission of students currently at ISLK, but no longer meeting the requirements for criterion 1 (see "Yearly re-admission process” below).
Students who are eligible to Special schools (anpassad grundskola or specialskola) according to the Swedish Education Act, Chapter 7 §§ 5 and 6, do not have access to international school and will not be admitted. This includes students who have intellectual disabilities, deafness and/or blindness, or students with severe language impairment.
Students with significant educational needs affecting their ability to access an ordinary learning environment and the curriculum offered, will not be admitted if it brings considerable organisational or economic difficulties to the school. (Regulation about international schools SFS 2015:801 § 11). Each application is assessed on an individual basis.
(Examples could be a student who need a one-to-one learning situation outside the classroom with an extra teacher/assistant, or a student whose learning ability is not within the range for what could be considered normal differentiation and support in the classroom and hence would need a moderated programme and extra daily support.)
If not all information about the child is included in the application and/or new information about a child’s significant educational needs is revealed, the admission may be revoked.
As the school is funded by the municipality of Lund, it is recommended that you live within the municipality. If you decide to live in another municipality, they must agree to pay school charges to Lund in accordance with the Swedish Education Act, Chapter 24 § 5 before admission is secured.
Please note that if the family’s or student’s situation changes such that the admission requirements are no longer met, the student may lose his/her place at ISLK.
Students are placed according to age and the school follows the calendar year, January to December, for cut-off dates. In order to challenge students, and meet their individual needs, teachers differentiate within year groups.
Guardians need to make sure the family and student meet the intake criteria and that they can verify it with documentation supporting their application. If not, the application will be rejected with no further notice.
For example: For criterion 1 ISLK needs a temporary contract and/or a letter of intent from the employer/organisation/university etc. stating the temporary stay or specifying the need for international schooling for their employee’s child/ren (i.e. the guardian’s child/ren).
For criterion 2 The guardians need to verify that the child has attended an international school abroad for the major part of their education.
For criterion 3 ISLK needs a contract or letter of intent stating the timeline for the move from an employer/organisation/university etc.
Guardians should make sure they will be living in Lund or in a municipality that will pay the school fee.
Both legal guardians of the child/ren should agree to the application.
If guardians apply more than nine months in advance ISLK may ask for updated documentation before the child starts.
Fill in the online Open Apply application. All fields in the form must be completed and the required documents uploaded (in PDF format). Answer the questions truthfully. If new information emerges after admission to ISLK that shows that information about the child has been withheld, the decision of admission will be reviewed and changed with support of the Swedish Administrative Law (2017:900) and the child can lose the place at ISLK. Following documents are needed:
Note: Vaccinations should be up to date according to Swedish regulations.
More than one child?
An account will automatically be created with Open Apply while submitting the first child. If there is more than one child, fill in the information for the first child and submit the application. Log back on with the OpenApply code and submit the following child/ren in the already created personal profile.
If an online application has been submitted and if it is complete, the guardians can expect the following:
Within 10 days the application will be processed by the ISLK Admissions administration, and the guardian/s will know the status of the child’s application by being given the following message:
Admitted: The child can start at ISLK.
Waiting list: ISLK do not operate a waiting list and every effort is made to provide a place for those students who meet the admission criteria and requirements. However, if the admission criteria are met and there is no place in a class, the student can be put in the waiting pool for a short period, normally the current term the family is applying for. If a place is vacated a student from the pool will be offered the place in accordance with the admission criteria.
Declined: The family does not meet the requirements for admission hence the application will be rejected/declined.
Every year, the ISLK Admissions administration go through the current students and their status of admission to ISLK before the re-admission process starts. Messages will be sent out to the guardians, for them to make an active choice in the re-admission process. New documentation may be required by the school. The following applies with regard to re-admission of students in the different criteria.
Students in criterion 1 If the length of the stay, as previously stated to the school, is coming to an end, the school will need an updated letter of intent or temporary contract from the employer/university/ organisation to verify that the student is in Sweden for a limited time, as stated in criterion 1.
If the limited stay is not verified, the following scenarios could happen:
Students in criterion 2 Student will be moved to the next year group unless the guardians decide to move schools.
Students in criterion 3 If the outlined and verified plan of moving abroad does not take place, the student needs to change schools after the stipulated time at ISLK. Rare exceptions to this rule can be made at the discretion of the principal at ISLK, depending on individual circumstances (such as length of extension), documentation provided and current student capacity.
Students in criterion 4 If a student has been admitted or re-admitted based on criterion 4, they can stay at ISLK if the guardians choose to.
ISLK staff may have their children at the school if they fulfil the admission criteria as stated above. However, a member of staff cannot teach, assess, or grade their own child which means that admission in certain cases may not be possible, even if the criteria are fulfilled.
